HISTORY

Available from one or two nurseries in UK and Europe.
A species from the mountains of Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu, Japan.
Common in sunny , grassy areas.
Colour of flower is variable and two coloured forms are sometimes available from nurseries.

ASSESSMENT

Hardly worth growing as the spikes have sparse flowers.
Only attribute is its lateness of flowering and ability to grow in wet poor soils.
Good in naturalist planting schemes.
